In what is the PR industry’s version of fish fingers, beans and chips for dinner – quick to pull together, uninspired but, ultimately, gets the job done – Alton Towers, one of my favourite places in the world, has opted for the time-honoured ‘best job in the world’ campaign format (I’m not above it), launching a search for an ‘official rollercoaster tester’.
The job will entail riding each of the theme park’s biggest rides before they open to the public.
Although the winner will be given a free annual pass, here are a few downsides, according to ITV:
- You will need to be on site for 8am daily until the end of September
- You won’t be paid
- There won’t be any travel expenses
- Food isn’t provide
Although every bit of coverage I could see (on the Mirror, News.com.au and quite a few regional news sites) mentions that participants must:
“visit the Alton Towers website and submit a video describing why you should be the park’s rollercoaster tester, along with what your favourite ride is and why”
I couldn’t actually spot anything on the site that would lead you to this, though if you do find it, a panel of rollercoaster experts, including the designer behind rides Nemesis and Oblivion, will judge the entries and decide who wins.
