Air New Zealand have capitalised on the hype of the final Hobbit film – The Battle of Five Armies with a remarkable safety video. It begins with a passionate fan of the franchise boarding a plane, seeing Elijah Wood, who played Frodo in The Lord of the Rings films. He is then transported to Middle Earth, recreated in the advert.
It gives the traditional advice of airlines in a glorious setting with elves, orcs, bungee jumping and even a battle scene. Most impressively, the video features guest spots from actors in the films such as Elijah Wood, Sylvester McCoy and Director Peter Jackson. Airline safety videos have been a good source of viral PR material with a captive audience to entertain, such as the all-singing all-dancing performance released by Virgin. However, the budget and grand ambition of this video is a cut above the rest and has been watched by millions on YouTube. The have met the brief asking for The Most Epic Safety Video Ever Made.
